Bolton-On-Dearne
This week’s picture in “Summer Scene in South Yorkshire” might almost be used for a query in a “Where is it” competition. So far in this feature we have chosen traditional beauty spots for the basis of our pictures, but this week we have gone to the heart of the South Yorkshire coalfield and captured a “shot” within half a mile of Manvers Main Colliery, this spot, passed by hundreds of people every day, and rarely admired, is situated on Mexborough Road, Bolton-on-Dearne.
Seen in this picture is the River Dearne dwarfed by the busy Bolton bridge carrying the Sheffield-York line of British Railways’ London Midland Region.
