Mr. Archibald Fouchard, of 75, Lowfield Road, Bolton-on-Dearne, has been elected to the West Riding County Council for the electoral division of Bolton-on-Dearne, the vacancy being created by the elevation of the former member, Mr. Greorge Probert, of Goldthorpe, to the aldermanic bench.

Mr. Fouchard is a Lancashire man, a native of Middleton Junction, Oldham, and came into this district in 1903 to work at the Wath Main Colliery.

He has been resident in Bolton some fourteen years.

All his working life has been spent in the mines. For the last six years he has been a delegate of the Wath Main branch of the Yorkshire Miners’ Association. He was elected to the Bolton Urban Council last year, and is chairman of the Health Committee.

He is a prominent and active member of the local Labour party, and for the last five years has represented the Wath Main miners on the management of the Montagu Hospital, Mexborough
