Bolton Lad Loses His Leg

Sapper G.Bailey
(Royal Engineers)

Information has been received at 13 Ladycroft, Bolton on Dearne, that Sapper G Bailey has been badly wounded.

His mother, Mrs Bailey, heard through her son’s section officer that he was hit on the leg by a portion of shell. Fortunately an ambulance was handy at the time, and he was taken to the nearest field hospital. A shattered leg had to be removed below the knee, an operation which was successfully performed.

In a letter to his mother, Sapper Bailey writes cheerfully and bravely, and says he is progressing satisfactorily.
