Bolton-on-Dearne Urban Council have received sanction to sites for housing schemes, and are urged by the Local Government Board to proceed without delay the letting of tenders for the first instalment of 40 houses.

The Council have received a letter from the President of the Local Government Board complimenting them upon the seal and promptitude with which they are dealing with the local housing problem.

Council’s Housing Zeal.

At the monthly meeting of the Bolton-on- Dearne Urban Council the Local Government Board wrote sanctioning ‘sites for the erection of forty houses, and complimenting the Council on their zeal and promptitude in tackling the housing question.

They urged the Council to proceed to the letting of tenders.

The forty houses referred to are part of a second scheme of 300 houses which the Bolton Council were about to put into operation when the war broke out. Contracts for that scheme we e let for £70,000, and the present cost of the same scheme will probably be double that amount.

The Bolton Council were restrained by the Treasury from erecting the houses in 1914
