Lord Halifax Suggests a New Church

Viscount Halifax, now in his 86th year, took part in the opening ceremony at Bolton on Dearne, yesterday of a “Spring Fayre” in aid of the restoration fund of the Bolton on Dearne Parish Church for which £1,650 is required.

In a short address before a good gathering, he said he felt he ought not only to restore the present church, but ought to build a new church between Bolton and Goldthorpe, to meet the spiritual needs of the rapidly increasing population in that district.

The “Fayre” was opened by Countess Fitzwilliam, of Wentworth Woodhouse, to whom Master Francis Almen, son of the vicar of Bolton, the Rev GB Almond presented a bouquet.

Mr GH Ashwin, general manager of the Wath Main colliery, presided over the ceremony.
