Bolton on Dearne

First Woman Councillor.

The most interesting feature of the election at Bolton-on-Dearne was the election for the first time of a woman to the Council, this distinction going to Mrs. Spencer, wife a manager of the co-operative stores.

Mrs Spencer had previously contested and polled well, but on Saturday she polled brilliantly and was placed second to Alderman Probert. She was the only independent candidate to be elected, and three retiring members (independents) were defeated, Mr. J.Horn, Mr G. B. Edwards, and Mr. H.G.Cauwood.
