Breakfast with Bishop

Wath Deanery Welcome for Dr L. S. Hunter

The clergy of the Rural Deanery or Wath-on-Dearne extended a warm wel- I come to the new Bishop of Sheffield (Dr. L. S. Hunter), at a gathering at Wombwell on Monday. The Bishop conducted Holy Communion for the Clergy in Wombwell Parish Church, and later took breakfast with them in the National Schools, the Bishop sitting at the head of the table.

During the proceedings the Bishop said, “I know of no better way of getting together in Christ’s service than the informal manner in which we have met this morning.”

Breakfast was prepared for a company of about forty by the wives of the Wombwell clergy, Mrs. Blakeney, Mrs. Shipley and Mrs. Tuffs, together with Miss S. Blakeney and Mrs. C. Tingle. Later in the day the Bishop presided at a meeting of the Chapter of the Wath Rural Deanery.

The proceedings were private, but later the Rural Dean, Canon J. St. Leger Blakeney, Rector of Wombwell, stated that the Bishop had given them the benefit of a long talk on diocesan and parochial matters, stressing particularly the importance of work among young people during the national emergency.
