Bolton’s Chairman
Councillor Benjamin Groves, who has been elected Chairman of the Bolton on Dearne Urban District Council, was born in Derbyshire, and came with his father to Goldthorpe 20 years ago.
He was apprenticed to the building trade, and at the age of 21 established himself in business as a builder and contractor.
He was elected to the council six years ago, and has since served the district very conscientiously and take a great interest in developments. He has been Chairman of the Sanitary Committee of the Council for three years, and is also a member of the Wath, Bolton and Thurnscoe gas Board.
The present time is very busily engaged in erecting houses for the Manvers Main Colliery Company in the Goldthorpe district, new housing accommodation having become urgently necessary on account of the rapid development of the new Barnburgh Main colliery. This
Mr Groves comes of a very musical family, and is himself a vocalist of considerable ability. He had been a member of the Goldthorpe Musical Society for a number of years.
He took his seat as a magistrate at Doncaster the first time on Tuesday.
