Bolton-On-Dearne Urban – Election of Chairman
At the annual meeting yesterday Mr. G. Probert was unanimously elected chairman.
Mr. Probert, in acknowledging the honour done him, said the past year had been a hard one. The sewage scheme and gas undertaking were two important developments. He thought there was a brighter outlook for the future, and he hoped that in the carrying out the work no creed or politics would be introduced, but that all the members would work amicably together for the benefit of the ratepayers, by whom, and for whom, they were labouring.
Mr. T. Washington was elected vice-chairman.

Mr George Proberts J.P
One of the most prominent and promising men in the local labour world. He was born 36 years ago at Wolverhampton, but his working life has been spent in Yorkshire, partly near Wakefeld, and partly in Thurnscoe.
He came to Hickleton Main in 1894, became a deputy in 1895, got a second class certificate for coal mining in 1897, and was elected checkweighman by the men of Hickleton Main in May of 1902. He has been president of the local branch of the Yorkshire Miners’ Association six times, and has been four times delegate to Barnsley.
He has done splendid work on the Bolton Urban District Council. He has the reputation of being a level-headed man of common sense, and the honour of the chairmanship is well deserved.
