Another Appeal
Bolton Legion Rid for New H.Q. Aid
Bolton British Legion decided at their meeting on Sunday to appeal again to the trustees of Bolton Memorial Hall Fund for the money collected during the war to be – used towards the erection of the. new Legion headquarters.
In a statement to the “South Yorkshire Times” on Wednesday, Mr. G. Miler, Legion chairman, said that about a year ago the branch made a request to the trustees that the £800 should be used to augment money obtained for the building of new Legion headquarters They received a negative answer and the trustees pointed out that as Dearne Community Association were contemplating building a public hall the. money would be used for that purpose.
Through a hard-working committee, various events had been organised and Legion had alIready about £1,200 towards the erection of their headquarters.
“It was anticipated,” said Mr. Miller, “that we should need about £2,000 at first, but with rising prices this figure will have to be doubled. Now that the Community Association is extinct it would be a nice gesture, if we could use the money of the Memorial Fund for our head.quarters.”
He pointed out that the Legion would willingly let their headquarters to other organisations.
“We have already obtained a plot of land from the Council,” he said, “alongside the Post Office in Station Road, Bolton, on which to build, and it was felt at our meeting that the money would be put to good use in this way.
