Right of King Coal

Right of King Coal

Though Samuel Round, a topman at the Hickleton Main Colliery, who lives at Bolton-on-Dearne, had bought the right of picking coal on the banks, Elizabeth Cartwright disputed this right.

On Sept. 20th she was some more women, of whom were picking the coal up. Round told Mrs. Cartwright to go away, but her reply was to have soma dirt thrown at him.

Mrs. Cartwright now alleged that he threw some coal over her and hit her on the face with a spade. Mrs. Hides corroborated.

The defendant denied the offences, and the case was dismissed.
