Upset Pram
Bolton Driver Fined
James A. Holt (41). a motor driver, of Bolton, was on Tuesday at Doncaster West Riding Police Court, fined 40s. including costs for driving a motor lorry in a dangerous manner on the Pastures road at Mexborough on June 9th.
He pleaded guilty, and Supt. Walker said at 4.40 p.m., Lily Beal was wheeling a perambulator containing a child, along the Pastures road towards Mexborough. There was no footpath, and she was walking along the right-hand side as she wanted to turn into a road on the right. The defendant came along at speed and when he saw her he applied his brakes, but apparently they were not strong enough because he knocked over the woman and sent the pram into the hedge bottom.
Fortunately there was no serious injury, but the woman and child were treated at the Montagu Hospital.
Holt told the court that three other vehicles approached him at the bend, and he went as close as he could to the near side. The woman with the pram suddenly appeared from behind some bushes. Since the accident the bushes had been cut down.
