Commando at Dieppe

Trooper Clifford Ward (22), third son of Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Ward, of 10, Station Road, Bolton, was a member of one of the Commando companies which took part in the raid on the French coast at Dieppe.

Mr. and Mrs. Ward received a letter postmarked 5.45 a.m, for the day following the raid, telling them that he was and well. Called up two years ago Clifford served a year with the West Yorkshire Regiment before volunteering for Commando service. He can relate many interesting stories of the raid on Vaagso, Norway, on December 27th last, another of the raids in which he took part.

For seven years he was employed in time Goldthorpe office of “The South Yorkshire Times” Printing Co. At present he is spending a leave with his wife at his home in Scotland
