Remanded In Custody
Bolton Man on Shop-Breaking Charge
Jack Hirst (33), miner of Bolton-on-Dearne, was at the Doncaster West Riding Court on Friday, remanded in custody to the West Riding Quarter Sessions on a charge of breaking and entering a Bolton-on-Dearne draper’s shop and stealing clothing to the value of £40.
Mr. Samuel Harrison of Conisbrough, owner of the shop, said that on April 29th he found the shop in disorder. The fanlight over the door had been removed. On checking the stock, he found a large quantity of clothing missing.
P.c. Hayward said he recovered from Hirst’s home a suitcase containing some of the missing clothing, together with the wrapping paper bearing Mr. Harrison’s name, and a jemmy with red paint marks on the end, similar to the paint on the shop. The defendant, he said, admitted the offence.
