Pension and Relief
The Rotherham Question at Doncaster
At Doncaster on Saturday, Thomas Fisher (41), miner of High Melton, was charged with obtaining £19 11s by false pretences between May 12th, 1931 and January 23rd, 1932, at Bolton-on-Dearne.
Charles E. Hayes, a Goldthorpe relieving officer, said Fisher had been granted relief amounting to £27 per week, from May 12th on account of illness, his only declared income being £18s 6d a week from health Insurance. Fisher also had an Army pension of £11 6d which he had never disclosed, although he had received it for four years.
Mr. E. W. Pettifer (Clerk) said guardians were taking into account disability pensions but some were not. Trouble had been caused at Rotherham over the question.
Defendant said he did not think disability pensions were taken into account.
The case was adjourned and Fisher was ordered to bring his Army papers.
