Obituary

Mr John Pocklington

The interment of Mr. John Pocklington, aged 78, of 13, Mexborough Road, Bolton, took place at the Bolton cemetery on Saturday.  A service was held in the Primitive Methodist Church and many mourners attended to pay tribute to a popular resident.

Mr. Pocklington died last week after a short illness, and leaves a wife, four sons and four daughters.  His youngest daughter is in America.

Mr. Pocklington was born at Osgodby, near Selby, and went to live at Bolton 51 years ago.  He was a devoted church worker and was the last surviving member of the original trust formed when the Primitive Methodist Church was built.  As a local preacher he did 60 years’ service.

He worked at Manvers Main for forty years and had to retire owing to ill-health.  He was a very keen gardener.  It was one of his ambitions to occupy the same garden for 50 years, and he achieved it with only a margin of weeks before he died.

The Rev. J. H. Cash officiated  at the funeral
