Long Service

55 years with one firm, with the exception of 11 months spent in Colorado, U.S.A. is a splendid record of Mr George Milton Watson of 40 Station Rd, Bolton, who is 69 and retired from work on Saturday.

Fifty-two of his 55 years have been spent in the blacksmith’s shop at Wath Main Colliery. He started work at Wath Main on April 4th, 1883.

He is the head of a big sporting family,

Mr. “Billy” Watson, his eldest son, now the licensee of the Commercial Hotel, Paddock, is well known in the football world as Huddersfield’s famous former half-back, which team he joined in September, 1912.

The latter’s two sons, Albert, aged 19, and Billy, aged 17, have both signed for their father’s old club. They are also playing members of the Paddock Cricket Club and gave splendid accounts of themselves last season. The younger of the two was called to the County nets last Year.

There are other younger members of the family showing promise in the football world.

Mrs. Watson’s mother, the late Mrs Lunn, was for a number of years a midwife in Bolton and district.
