Bad Language

For having used language, Sarah Ball, a Denaby married woman, and Edward Picton, miner, Goldthorpe, were find 5/– and the costa.

“Nap” at Bolton

Four Bolton pit lads named John Petty, John Stevenson, Harry Smith and Lawrence Kitchen, did not appear to answer a charge of having gambled with cards at Bolton, on the 4th August.

They were scan by P.c. Ellis playing at “nap” in Lowfield Lane.

They were each fined 5/– and costs.

Dangerous Games

For throwing stones on the highway at Barnburgh, on the 4th inst., two Swinton pithands, Henry Wray and Harry Wright, 16 yeas of age, had each 2/6 and the costs. 10/– altogether, to pay.

P.c. Ellis saw the boys throwing stones at the telegraph wires. Many complaints had been received.
