Golden Wedding
A well-known Mexborough couple, Mr. and Mrs. George Marshall, of 73, Adwick Road, celebrated their Golden Wedding on Sunday. They were married at St. Peter’s Church, Barnsley, on March 26th 1894, and are both natives of Barnsley.
Mr. and Mrs. Marshall have lived in Mexborough over 50 years, and were in business in High Street before they took a draper’s shop in Adwick Road.
Mr. Marshal was one of the first men in Mexborough to become a Special Constable and retired several years after the last war. He served 15 years in the Special Constabulary, was for six years a member of the Old Board of Guardians and at one time President of the Traders’ Association.
Since the commencement of the present war, he has been assisting in the weigh office at Barnburgh Main. Mrs. Marshall was before her marriage Miss Cunnington and has been busily occupied for several years as a milliner. Mr. Marshall is 73 and his wife 71.
Their son, Mr. George Marshall, and daughter, Mrs. Broadbery with their families, attended a family gathering at the house on Sunday, and the couple received many congratulatory cards and telegrams.
