Reaction to the Verdict
The general feeling in the district was in favour of the course taken by the jury, as it was believed that Mrs. Bean bed been greatly provoked to throw the stone and that she was in danger of her life from the deceased woman.
Mrs Eccles, it is stated, was a hardworking woman and in the words of a neighbour, ” nothing went into her house unless it was previously paid for.”
Of late she had been making preparation to take a small farm, as she had by dint of economy, and great perseverance saved nearly £60.
