Denaby’s Recovery
Green Hits Stumps Four Times in An Over
A brilliant bowling spell Mike Green for Bolton was of no avail in the match at Denaby which was left drawn, the Bolton 157 runs in arrears and eight wickets standing when time expired.
Denaby started none too well, Greenwood was bowled by Green before he had scored. Tables and Vollans stay for a while but with the total 27 for 3, Stancey changed ends with disastrous results for Denaby.
Green took four wickets in his first over and clean bowled each of his victims: Carling, J Robinson, Pattison and E.P. Robinson.
With but 45 on the board and 7 wickets down Denaby were in a serious position, but after Reg. Probert, Dick Probert and Richards had improved the outlook, rain caused a delay of an hour with the total at 95 for 8. On resuming Richards and Dick Probert carried the total to 148 before Probert was born by Turner.
Springthorpe helped Richards to take the score 189 and Richards was unbeaten for a well-played 47.
Bolton were left with only 58 minutes in which to bat so a draw was practically inevitable. But they lost the wickets of Turner—for a blob —and Holliday for32 runs.
Green finished with 7 wickets for 70 runs.
