Canal Rescue at Mexborough

Details of an exciting rescue of a boy from the canal at Mexborough last Thursday evening have come to light during the week.

Six-year-old Alan Jenkins, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. Jenkins, 41, Dodsworth Street, Mexborough, slipped into the canal and seemed likely to drown when his companion, Jack Yates, 9, of 42, Hartley Street, Mexborough, grabbed hold of his arm by reaching from the bank and managed to pull him out of the water.

In the meantime, Roy Biggins, of 12, Swinton Road, Mexborough, called out, and his cries were heard by Mr. Newby of 13, Cliff Street, who ran 400 yards to the bank to render artificial respiration, and took the boy home.

The boy was attended by a doctor and has now recovered.
