Bolton Track Rider Fined

The well-known dirt track rider, George Wigfield, of Bolton on Dearne, was at Doncaster on Saturday, fined a total of £3 for riding a motorcycle at Bolton without an efficient silencer and failing to have an insurance certificate and ordered to pay the costs for failing to sign his driving licence.

The cases were pulled by PC Murray.

In defence, Mr C.R. Marshall said the cycle belonged to Whitfield’s brother. Whitfield had a motor car which was insured, and normally he will be able to drive the motorcycle with the owner’s consent. But for now found that he could not do so simply because he had insured his own car for business purposes and paid a higher premium.

The brother, Thomas W Whitfield, a motor driver, was fined £1 for permitting the motorcycle be used without an insurance certificate.

Mr Marshall asked that in the circumstances George Wigfield licence should not be suspended, and the magistrates consented.
