South Yorkshire Times – Saturday 29 August 1942

This picture of a group of South Yorkshire lads has arrived from India. It has come from Mr. A. E. Sissons to his wife at Ladycroft, Bolton, and shows one of the men’s “catches” in the bush.

The snake is stated to be of the non-poisonous type. The three coloured boys are constant companions when the soldiers are off duty. Mr. Sissons formerly resided at 29, Clayfield Lane, Mexborough, moving from there to Thurnscoe, and. at the time of his enlistment in August 1939, he was employed at Brodsworth Main Colliery.

Mr. Sissons is second figure from the right seated in the group.
