N.U.M. Official Is Killed

A 44-years-old miner was killed on Monday shorting after starting work on the early day shift at Barnburgh Main Colliery, Goldthorpe. Mr. Anthony Ganley, of 25, Chapel Street, Goldthorpe, a mine car handler, died when he was involved in an accident with a mine car.

A National Coal Board spokesman said that Mr. Ganley received multiple injuries. An inquest will be held at Goldthorpe Town Hall today (Friday).

The spokesman added that Mr. Ganley – known to people in Dearne as Tony – was working in the Winter seam when he slipped and fell.

From Leaving School

Mr. Ganley had worked at Barnburgh from being a boy and was an N.U.M. official at the pit.  He was also an official at Bolton Working Men’s Club.

Mr. Ganley leaves a widow and a daughter, Mrs Jacqueline Humphreys.

The funeral will be held at Bolton on Monday morning,
