The Season of Remembrance
Bolton
Armistice Day was observed at the Parish Church with solemn Requiem Mass in memory of the fallen. There was a good congregation and the Mass, “Requiem Aeternum” was sung by the ladies’ choir with Miss C. Goret at the organ. The Rev. F. Almond was the celebrant.
The names of the men of the parish who fell were read and the Silence was observed at the end of the Mass. The offerings were for the Poppy Day fund.
A Service of Remembrance was held at the Parish Church on Sunday evening and was well attended. The vicar conducted the service and special hymns were sung.
The vicar preached on “The Catholic Church and peace.” At the close the Dead March in “Saul” was played whilst the congregation stood in tribute to the memory of the fallen. Bugles then sounded the Last Post and Reveille, and the service closed with a prayer for peace.
