Wounded In Action

Private Jack Stuart is convalescing in the Middle East after being wounded in action. Writing home to his parents at 131, Furlong Road, Pte. Stuart says he is getting along very nicely and sends some interesting news about other local boys.

He came across another Goldthorpe boy, Guy Lewis, son of Major Lewis, of the Goldthorpe Home Guard. and Mrs. Lewis. Guy being married, lived next door to Jack at Bolton, where Guy looked after a branch of his father’s business.

Then came another unexpected meeting, this time with Sergt. Terrace, Mexborough. Notes were freely compared about home life and Jack goes on to say that there’s no place like England. His father is a Q.M.S. in the Bolton Home Guard and was in the Army for 12 years previous to the last war in which he served for 12 months.

Pte. Stuart was educated at Bolton Council Schools and before joining up was employed at Barnburgh Main Colliery.
